Looking for an immersive haunted house experience like no other? The Mill of Madness is a brand-new horror attraction created by a team known for producing B-horror movies, bringing a cinematic level of theatricality to their haunt. This interactive horror show places visitors at the center of a dark and twisted storyline, making you feel like part of a living horror movie.

A Unique Haunted House Experience

  • Unlike traditional haunted houses where guests wander aimlessly, The Mill of Madness guides or chases visitors through self-contained, interconnected vignettes.

  • Each scene builds on the last, offering a structured horror narrative with a clear beginning, rising action, climax, and resolution.

  • The haunt's strong storytelling and immersive atmosphere set it apart from other first-year productions.

What to Expect at The Mill of Madness

  • Cinematic-Style Horror – Inspired by classic B-movie horror, the attraction is designed like a live-action horror film.

  • Surprise Scares – Cast members strategically target different areas of the group, keeping everyone on edge.

  • Spooky Yet Playful Atmosphere – The experience balances fun and frights, making it ideal for horror fans of all levels.

  • Epilogue Examination – A unique post-haunt medical check to ensure visitors are "safe" before exiting.

Areas for Improvement & Future Potential

While The Mill of Madness is a solid first-year attraction, enhancements could include:

  • Interactive Pre-Haunt Experience – Adding queue actors, themed food stands, and eerie pre-show elements to build suspense before entering.

  • Increased Horror Factor – While the haunt is thrilling, it leans toward entertainment over intense scares. Future years could introduce more psychological horror for those seeking a truly terrifying experience.

Pricing & Overall Value

  • General Admission: $25 per person

  • Duration: Approximately 25 minutes

  • MPD Score (Minutes per Dollar): 1.0 – An incredible value for a high-quality haunted attraction.

For horror fans seeking a fun, immersive haunted house with theatrical storytelling and creative scares, The Mill of Madness is an absolute must-visit. With such an impressive first-year production, we can’t wait to see what they bring next Halloween!

If you attended last year, you know how big the crowd was and will be happy to know that they are taking over the entire lower level of the mall instead of a single store space. That means you can use any mall entrance and should not expect any lines standing between you and your Halloween fun!

The AZ Halloween Marketplace is organized by The AZHaunters.com website, an online community of individuals of all ages that have come together celebrate Halloween Haunting by sharing and learning with each other. The HAunted Swap Meet began in 2015 with a half dozen members gathering on a lawn to trade props (hence the original name Swap Meet), and has since grown with over 6,000 attendees last year.

AZ Haunters gather together in person and online to share prop making techniques and ideas, chat about Halloween, and help each other out with haunting plans. They also hold "Make & Take" crafting events approx once a month, this is where they meet in person and you learn how to construct various Halloween props..

Which is Scarier: 13th Floor VS Fear Farm

Looking for a haunted house in the Metro Phoenix Area, but not sure which to visit or which is Scarier?

Click Here for a review of Sanctum of Horror Haunted Attraction in Mesa.

This review will provide some pros and cons between The 13th Floor and Fear Farm. Click here for my past Fear Farm VS 13th Floor review.

Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group produces some of the world’s largest Halloween themed attractions, including Fear Farm and 13th Floor haunted houses in Phoenix. But which is scarier?

13th Floor Haunted House – Phoenix’s Premier Haunted Attraction

👻 Get Ready for a Terrifying Experience at 13th Floor Phoenix!

📍 Location: 2814 W. Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ

The 13th Floor Haunted House offers two spine-chilling haunted mazes that promise heart-pounding scares, terrifying animatronics, and immersive sets. This year's themes include a Creature Feature of Classic Movie Monsters and a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Maze.

What to Expect at 13th Floor Phoenix

  • 🎃 Elaborate Haunted Mazes – Experience movie-quality sets, animatronics, and intense jump scares.

  • 🧟 Zombie Apocalypse Experience – Navigate through a post-apocalyptic nightmare filled with the undead.

  • 📸 Photo Opportunities – Capture memorable moments at themed photo booths.

  • 🎟️ Ticket Prices: $24.99 – $32.99 (Fast Pass +$10)

Pros & Cons of Visiting 13th Floor

Pros:

  • Indoor attraction – No worries about weather conditions.

  • Hollywood-style special effects & set design.

  • More intense & interactive scares compared to Fear Farm.

  • Free parking available.

Cons:

  • Metal detectors at entry may feel unnecessary.

  • Longer wait times unless you purchase a Fast Pass.

  • No carnival games or food vendors – Unlike Fear Farm, there’s little reason to stay after the haunts.

👻 Dare to enter? The 13th Floor Haunted House is waiting!

Fear Farm – Phoenix’s Ultimate Haunted Attraction

🎃 Experience the Thrills & Chills of Fear Farm

📍 Location: 2209 N. 99th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ

This year, Fear Farm brings five haunted mazes plus a classic corn maze experience for those brave enough to enter. Unlike previous years, the attraction has removed the traditional hayride in favor of The Reaping corn maze, a decision met with mixed reactions. While the hayride drew long lines, the corn maze remains relatively quiet in comparison.

Fear Farm Haunted Mazes

👻 Featured Mazes:

  • 🏚️ The Bunker – A dystopian nightmare filled with post-apocalyptic horror.

  • 🔪 Slaughterhouse – Enter at your own risk and witness pure carnage.

  • 🎃 Pumpkin Witch – Beware the sinister magic lurking within this eerie pumpkin patch.

  • ☢️ Fallout – A radioactive wasteland of terror.

  • 🦠 Plague – Escape the horrors of a virus-infested nightmare.

Ticket Prices & Fast Pass Options

🎟️ General Admission: $24.99 – $32.99 (varies by date)
Fast Pass Upgrade: +$10 (skip the lines!)

Pros & Cons of Fear Farm

Pros:

  • No need to purchase a Fast Pass – With multiple mazes, the wait times are spread out.

  • Carnival games, food vendors & a mini escape room – Plenty of entertainment before and after the haunted experience.

  • Reduced use of chainsaws in confined spaces – Enhancing the scare factor without overwhelming noise.

  • Improved strobe light placement in Slaughterhouse – No direct flashes in guests’ eyes.

  • Smoke-free environment – No smoking or vaping allowed, keeping the experience clean.

Cons:

  • Metal detectors at entry – Some guests feel it disrupts the haunted house atmosphere.

  • Additional costs for games & activities – Expect to spend extra beyond ticket prices.

  • Overcrowding with unsupervised teens – Some nights resemble a chaotic daycare rather than a haunted attraction.

  • Paid VIP parking ($5) – No real added benefit given the parking lot’s size.

  • No hayride – The biggest disappointment for many long-time visitors.

  • Dusty environment – Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for dust clouds.

  • Sparse scare actors in some areas – Some rooms and hiding spots remain vacant.

  • Lack of jump scares – Many actors act more as part of the scenery rather than creating true shock moments.

  • Uneven ground throughout the mazes – Visitors should watch their step to avoid tripping.

  • Weather-dependent event – Fear Farm has been rained out in previous years, so check the forecast before heading out.

🎃 Is Fear Farm Worth It? For those looking for a full haunted house experience with multiple mazes and extra entertainment, Fear Farm offers a solid night of Halloween fun. While some elements have been removed or altered this year, it remains one of Phoenix’s top haunted attractions.

👻 Dare to enter? Fear Farm awaits you!

Overall I love Haunted Houses, even bad ones, but if you ask me which is scarier, which is more worth the money, go to 13th Floor!

Review of the Haunted Swap Meet - September 28th, 2019

This year, The Haunted Swap Meet event was held inside Metrocenter Mall in Phoenix on Saturday September 28th, 2019.

I do not have an estimate on the number of Halloween enthusiasts that gathered to buy sell or trade props, costumes, decorations, and other Halloween related items. However, what I do know is the turnout was far larger than I think anyone expected.

The lines wrapped around the stairs and outside the mall down around the old Sears and there was standing room only inside the space rented for the event.

On one hand it is extremely satisfying to see such a turn out of Halloween lovers, gives me hope the holiday is not as dead as some might think. For the last few years, when you walk into stores in October, you see Christmas, not Halloween. When you look for halloween events, you see churches running events in hopes of increasing attendance. Even in many neighborhoods, everyone has the lights out instead of handing candy out to the folks who put effort into dressing up and celebrating. But all that digresses from the subject at hand.

The huge turn out created an issue with ability to actually browse comfortably. As mentioned, there was standing room only and the space was not large enough for the thousands of people that showed up to find a bargain.

I do have some suggestions to improve upon on this issue which was posted to the Facebook Event's Page. Now some of these will increase the cost which may mean they will need to charge a nominal entry fee (which will also assist with head count).

Some of these suggestions are a bigger location, next year maybe rent out both floors of the old Sears and seperate the merchants/businesses from the home haunters/swap meet/used stuff. This will increase browsing space and make it easier to locate deals by identifying the used merchandise that may be cheaper or have the ability to be haggled over.

Do 2 days, Saturday and Sunday. This will help with overcrowding to some extent. Now, you should still expect opening on Saturday to be large as no one would really want to wait till near close on Sunday when most of the best deals would be gone.

Maybe even do March and September. Many Haunters work on their Halloween stuff year round, also having one in March would increase the deals as many are more apt to sell items no longer being needed at an off time of year.

Spreading vendors out more will allow buyers to access each vendor from all 4 sides for better less crowded browsing. This will increase the experience for vendor and buyer.

Maybe even Sanctum of Horror Haunted Attractions (who sponsors the AZHaunters Haunted Swap Meet) can have a mini haunted house in a store the size of the one the swap meet was in this year. This would not only increase the draw for people in the East Valley, but dilute the traffic at the Swap a bit by spreading the flow out. This haunted attraction could even be up the whole month, making it worth while for Sanctum of Horror to attempt the endeavour. Get a coupon to this haunted house here.

That is my two cents, lots of neat things to see, but little opportunity to purchase because of the crowds. Additionally, some of the merchants did not have signal and so could only accept cash.

I do think, this year's Haunted Swap Meet learned and improved from 2018, but I think some of the changes (being inside instead of outside) drew a bigger crowd which created other issues. I think they will take much of the insight given this year to make next year more enjoyable. In short, do not give up on them, we need this type of thing to help keep Halloween Alive.

I also liked the FREE picture with a Spirit!

Stay tuned for more information on The Arizona Haunted Swap Meet returning to Metro Center Mall on September 26th, 2020.
