My Two Cents:
My review of Lights at the Farm is pretty positive.
My parents, my children and myself (ages 14-63) attended and all enjoyed the event.
The pathways were wide enough that you were not fighting crowds, plenty of space to take pictures. No lines for anything (except Santa, had a small one).
Additionally, unlike many places the refreshments were not overpriced and the food was pretty good. We had nachos and cheese, chips, drinks and a cheese burger. $3 dollars for a hot chocolate, is not bad!
The best part is the place was set up for families to connect and enjoy each other's company. There were games everywhere like put put golf, corn hole, ping pong and a bunch more which makes you want to hang out and enjoy your family as much as the lights.
We especially enjoyed the pallet maze. Since both openings are marked Entrance/Exit you can do it twice for a different experience or 1/2 the group can race from one entrance as 1/2 your group races from the other
The Smores kits were 2 for $5 and made 4 Smores (2 per kit) while you sit around cozy fires laughing, talking and taking pictures. Oh, and arguing about what the perfect roasted marshmallow is. I like mine on fire!
The biggest issue I had besides it began raining, was the Smores kits used the huge marshmallows instead of the medium ones, so we got pretty sticky and there was not really a sink to clean up!
Sadly, the event has been plagued with rain this season and even had to close on some optimal visiting times. The Vertuccio Farm team, though has gone over and above to ensure everything is dry and running proper when you do visit.

World of Illumination, the drive thru Holiday light show (previously called Illumination Symphony of Light) is moving it's north Phoenix location to the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale this year.
The owners, Yakir Urman and Simon Kreisberger, claim it is the world's largest drive through holiday animated light show in Arizona. Christmas in Color which was located in Goodyear last season has chosen not to return to Arizona stating "We had a great time in Arizona but we will be focusing our efforts in our other locations.".
The World of Illumination event will be nightly from November 20th to January 5th at 6797 N 93rd Ave. Tickets are available online for $22.99 per vehicle for Monday through Thursday, and $32.99 per vehicle for Friday through Sunday and holidays. Tickets purchased at the gate are $40.
Tickets at Costco are 19.99 and 29.99.
If you are not on the West side of the Valley: There is a second World of Illumination drive thru lights location at the Tempe Diablo Stadium, 2200 W. Alameda Drive. As well as Lights at the Farmwalk thru light show located at Vertuccio Farms, 4011 S Power Rd, in Mesa.
World of Illumination will have nearly 2 million lights fully-synchronized to holiday music and a 36-foot-tall animated snowman in Glendale.
The event will take place five miles from the free event in downtown Glendale, where every year the city hosts Glendale Glitters, a display of holiday lights strung across 16 blocks with a kick-off festival during Thanksgiving weekend.
In contrast to Glendale Glitters and Christmas at Westgate, World of Illumination is a good option for families with smaller children or people with mobility concerns, because you stay in your car. The show takes about 25 minutes to drive through.
World of Illumination can be seen as an extension to Westgate's festive holiday atmosphere and complements the walking events at the district which include a free Horse-drawn carriage ride from November 29th to December 21st.
Westgate's holiday events also include a tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26 and there are Photos with Santa from November 26th to December 24th. It is free to attend.
Glendale Glitters will kick off with a festival on November 29th & 30th in the downtown area, near 58th Ave and Glendale ave. Visitors can expect holiday entertainment, food, fake snow and Santa Claus. It is free to attend.
The city will switch the lights on at 5:30 p.m. Friday, November 29th. The lights will be up nightly until Jan. 11, so visitors can experience the light show without the festival crowds.

Winter Wonderfest apologizes to discontented guests
My family and I were present opening night, see my Winter Wonderfest Review and other information regarding the event. I admit we were underwhelmed after reading the description on their web page, but we also did make the best of it and have some fun. I also admire the fact they have admitted they failed customers and are trying to improve the event for future guests as well as offer a revisit to those who found themselves disappointed. I will in fact be returning December 1st and will update this post with a new review.
On November 25th, Winter Wonderfest posted an apology to guests who participated in opening night on Facebook.
The apology is making the news and to try and win back customers, Peter Orr says admission, bounce houses and rides are free to everyone from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. this coming Friday, Dec. 1, 2017. While Orr says refunds are not available for dissatisfied customers who came over this last weekend, he is offering another free visit for those who contact him. He hopes the revamped park impresses future customers as they wish this to become a staple event for the Christmas Season in the future.
"First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who attended our opening night, Friday, November 24th. While there may be several reasons; there is absolutely no excuse for the challenges and disappointments some our guests and their families experienced. As new promoters, our intent was to be able to deliver 100% of our vision for this new holiday Arizona event. We are fully aware that we disappointed many of you, and we want to offer our most sincere apologies to you, and to your families. We are making every effort possible to improve the experience moving forward and live up to the true potential of this event, both for those of you who attended this past Friday, and for all future patrons. We are committed to the long term success and improvement of this event, as well as dedicated “to making it right” for those of you, whose experience at our event, did not live up to your expectations. For these folks, we are asking that you email us at winterwonderfestaz@gmail.com, giving us the ability to communicate and resolve these issues directly and personally with you. Please be patient and allow us a few days to ensure we are able to respond to each and every one on of you. Sincerely, Josh Ahearn & Peter Orr Managing Partners and Owners, Winter Wonderfest AZ."
My two cents
I went back for the free apology day, with one of my kids and had way more fun without spending a ton.
There was some new decoration which did increase the atmosphere and the snow pit was a nice addition. Part of the issue I think is the venue, a dirt lot is hard to dress up. They also adjusted the hours so it is dusk and lights are on when people arrive, rather than opening at 2PM, which has upset some people, but you can't please everyone.
There were still only like 3 vendors selling things and not really 'Christmas Gift' type stuff. Even Glendale Glitters lacked in vendors this year. I am not sure if it was the event, the vendor fees or the number of attractions this year, but there just does not seem to be an event with vendors to find gifts.
Now the cost VS value will have increased for those going the next two weekends, compared to the first weekend. However you still should expect to pay for rides, s'mores and crafts. Winter Wonderfest since having lowered their entry fee has started applying the difference in amount paid for pre-purchased tickets to the new $10 admission towards ride tickets.
Load up your family and friends into the vehicle and experience Christmas with a drive through of more than 1.5 million lights synchronized to holiday music you’ll listen to on your radio. Drive by giant candy canes, snowmen and through arched pathways. You’ll want to take your time driving through this Winter Wonderland, enjoying all it has to offer.
This is sure to become a staple of your family's Arizona Christmas tradition.

Winter WonderFest WILD HORSE PASS MOTORSPORTS PARK 20000 S Maricopa Rd, Chandler, AZ 85226
My two Cents
First I want to say, we did have fun and it was the first day of the event, but in the end price VS value was lacking compared to Lights of the World 2017 or Illumination - Holiday drive-thru light show.
Pros
It is spread out and so when it gets crowded it does not feel like you will lack personal space. We also did not have an issue finding a place to sit and eat. Overall both the kids (tweens) and adults enjoyed themselves.
Cons
Overall the website in my opinion oversells the event and what is available as well as what you get for basic admission and I was underwhelmed when we arrived. Most pictures on the website are not of the actual event.
"Walk down Candy Cane lane and explore a life size Gingerbread House light display unlike anything you've ever seen. Candy Cane fences will tempt you to take a bite at each turn in this magical land. Become a Princess for the day when you enter the Ice Castle where you can visit and get your picture taken with the beautiful Ice Queen who has created an enchanting manor for all to experience. "
Be prepared to spend: parking, rides, food, drink, crafts,s'mores and gifts all cost extra. Food ranges from $7-$15 and drinks from $3 to $6, so for a kid to eat and drink will be about $10 and an adult up to $21. Rides are $1 to $9. We spent about $250 for a family of 5 for the kids to ride and us all to eat and would have got slightly more for the same $250 with 5 VIP tickets.

The Legend of Krampus – What Happens if You’re on Santa’s Naughty List? 🎄👹
While Santa Claus rewards good children with presents, the terrifying Krampus punishes the naughty ones. This ancient Germanic folklore has become a global holiday tradition, bringing a dark twist to Christmas celebrations.
If you've ever wondered who Krampus is, where the legend comes from, and what happens if you're on his naughty list, keep reading to discover the spine-chilling origins of Krampusnacht, the Alpine Christmas demon, and his role in holiday folklore.
👹 Who is Krampus? The Christmas Demon of Folklore
Krampus, whose name comes from the Old High German word "krampen" (meaning "claw"), is a half-goat, half-demon figure that appears during the Christmas season to punish misbehaving children.
📖 Norse Mythology Origins Krampus is believed to be the son of Hel, the goddess of the underworld in Norse mythology. He is linked to pagan winter traditions that pre-date Christianity, symbolizing the dark side of Christmas.
🎭 The Yin-Yang of Christmas: Krampus vs. St. Nicholas
Saint Nicholas (Santa Claus) brings sweets and gifts to good children.
Krampus, on the other hand, beats, kidnaps, or terrifies naughty children.
This dark companion of Santa has been a part of Alpine folklore for centuries, blending pagan rituals with Christian holiday traditions.

🎃 What Happens on Krampusnacht?
Krampus roams the streets, carrying bells and chains to terrify onlookers.
He visits homes, leaving bundles of sticks for bad children.
In some legends, he swats misbehaving kids or kidnaps them in a sack.
📅 The Next Day: St. Nicholas Day (December 6th)
Children wake up to either a reward or punishment.
Good kids receive candy and presents in their shoes.
Naughty kids find coal, sticks, or even a warning from Krampus.
🎭 Krampus Parades & Festivals Today, Krampus celebrations take place across Europe, especially in Austria, Germany, and the Alpine regions. People dress as Krampus and participate in wild, theatrical parades, keeping the scary Christmas tradition alive.
🩸 Krampus' Punishments – What Happens if You’re on the Naughty List?
According to Krampus legend, misbehaving children may experience the following:
❌ Light Punishment:
A bundle of sticks (called ruten) left by the fireplace as a warning.
A lump of coal in their stocking instead of presents.
❌ Moderate Punishment:
A gentle swat with birch branches as a reminder to behave next year.
❌ Severe Punishment:
Abduction! Krampus throws naughty children into a sack and carries them to the underworld.
Some stories claim he drowns, eats, or enslaves the worst offenders.
📢 Pro Tip: If you see Krampus approaching on December 5th, you better have been good this year!
🔥 How Krampus Changed Over Time – From Horror to Holiday Tradition
Krampus was banned by the Catholic Church for many years because his appearance resembled the devil. However, he never disappeared completely, and in modern times, his legend has softened:
✔️ Krampus became a holiday character similar to "Elf on the Shelf" – instead of punishing kids, he reminds them to behave. ✔️ The lump of coal tradition replaced physical punishment as a way to warn children. ✔️ Krampus parades and Christmas markets now celebrate him as a fun, spooky part of the holiday season.
🎭 Krampus in Pop Culture & Horror Movies
Krampus has gained popularity in modern media, appearing in movies, books, and TV shows:

This Christmas horror film follows a family haunted by Krampus after they lose the holiday spirit.
The movie showcases Krampus’ terrifying presence, complete with his demonic minions and dark magic.

American Dad! – Krampus appears as a misunderstood anti-hero.
The Venture Bros. – Features a comedic version of Krampus.
Supernatural (Season 3, Ep. 8) – Krampus-like figures kill bad people at Christmas.
Many haunted Christmas experiences now feature Krampus as a winter horror villain.
Halloween Horror Nights and Scary Christmas events often include Krampus-themed mazes.

Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights collaborated closely with 'Legendary Pictures' and filmmaker Michael Dougherty to bring you a terrifying Krampus encounter. This Halloween Horror Nights Maze is inspired by the 2015 film and brings a Dark Christmas themed scare.
Krampus (Released December 2015) was rated PG-13, ran 1 hour and 38 minutes and was a mix of Comedy, Fantasy and Horror. The plot revolves around a young boy's dysfunctional family over the Christmas holiday. Christmas holiday icons take on a monstrous life and lay siege to the fractured family's home, forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive.
Most everyone knows the story of Santa Claus and how he brings toys to good little children on Christmas Eve. What is lesser known is what happens to the naughty children who don't make Santa's list. Who visits them on Christmas Eve? What "gifts" are brought to them?
The Krampus Halloween Horror Nights Maze at Universal Studios Hollywood takes an Old World Christmas legend based on the 2015 hit film and shows you what happens when you make the naughty list. Krampus and his nasty little helpers have come to terrorize those who lost the Christmas spirit.
It will be a lesson you will never forget, if you can survive it.
Review
Like the 2015 Dark Christmas Halloween Horror Night Scare Zone, Krampus adds a fun and interesting twist to the normally jolly holiday.
As you approach the Krampus haunted house/maze, you find yourself entering the Engel family home decorated with Christmas lights, icicles, and the foreboding effigy of Krampus standing on the rooftop. A frozen mailman walks back and forth in front of the house giving you a photo op before you enter.
The maze takes place inside a version of the Engel house and yard, with smells of pumpkin spice and pine throughout the maze adding to the effect. Fog is a common element in many of Krampus’ scenes, add that to the dark nature of some scenes and you have practically zero visibility, a frightrning effect as you anticipate what will happen next. The foreboding atmosphere can, at times, be even scarier than seeing the monster jump out.
This honestly was our favorite haunted house and we went twice. The maze does well in replicating scenes from the movie and you won't always find a scare, but the detail is wonderful. So many of Krampus’ minions are present, including the evil gingerbread horde, as well as the man eating jack-in-the-box with a have eaten woman reaching for your help.
Like The Exorcist Maze, there is heavy use of animatronics, puppets and props throughout Krampus, transforming the well know Christmas season into a twisted and corrupt versions. A definite highlight is the attic scene with the Christmas tree angel. Along with props, live actors also appear throughout the experience, though sometimes predictable, not always.
The Origins, History, and Global Traditions of Santa Claus 🎅
Did you know that Santa Claus has more than one Christmas Eve? Due to time zones and the rotation of the Earth, Santa actually has 31 hours to deliver presents if he travels east to west. Additionally, Eastern Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Eve on January 6th, giving Santa a second round of deliveries!
Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, and Kris Kringle, is one of the most beloved holiday figures worldwide. But where did his legend begin? Let’s explore the origins, history, and global traditions of Santa Claus.
🎄 Santa Claus Around the World
🌍 Santa is known by many names globally, including:
Saint Nicholas (Western Europe & Christian traditions)
Père Noël (France)
Weihnachtsmann (Germany)
Babbo Natale (Italy)
Ded Moroz (Russia & Eastern Europe)
Papai Noel (Brazil & Portugal)
Julenissen (Scandinavia)
🎁 Not All Children Receive Gifts from Santa! Santa only delivers gifts to children who believe in him, which means that approximately 50-55% of the world’s children—primarily in Christian communities—expect a visit. In some cultures, gift-giving traditions differ:
🎅 Poland:St. Nicholas Day (December 6th) is a day for gifts from Święty Mikołaj (St. Nicholas).
🎄 Spain & Latin America:Gifts are exchanged on January 6th for Three Kings’ Day (Día de los Reyes Magos).
❄️ Russia & Ukraine: Santa-like figure Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) delivers gifts on New Year’s Eve instead of Christmas.
🎅 The Origins of Santa Claus – From Saint to Mythical Gift-Giver
The story of Santa Claus traces back to Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century bishop from Myra (modern-day Turkey). Known for his generosity and devotion to children, his legend spread throughout Europe, making him the Patron Saint of Children and Travelers.
✨ Key Moments in the Evolution of Santa Claus:
12th Century: The Feast of St. Nicholas (December 6th) was officially established as a day of gift-giving and charity.
Protestant Reformation (16th Century): While devotion to Saint Nicholas declined in much of Europe, Dutch traditions of Sinterklaas survived.
17th Century:Dutch settlers brought "Sinterklaas" to America, where the name evolved into Santa Claus.
1822:Clement C. Moore’s poem‘A Visit from St. Nicholas’ (a.k.a. The Night Before Christmas) shaped the modern image of Santa:
“He had a broad face and a little round belly”
“He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf”
19th & 20th Centuries: Santa’s red suit and sleigh-pulled reindeer became iconic, thanks to Coca-Cola ads and Christmas illustrations.
Not all holiday traditions are cheerful! In Austrian, German, and Alpine folklore, Krampus is a horned, demonic figure who punishes naughty children while Santa rewards the good ones.
🔥 Krampusnacht (Krampus Night) on December 5th is a spooky Christmas tradition where people dressed as Krampus parade through the streets, scaring misbehaving children before St. Nicholas arrives on December 6th.
🎁 Santa’s Christmas Magic – Myth or Reality?
Santa’s legend continues to evolve, blending history, folklore, and pop culture. Whether you believe in the real Saint Nicholas, embrace the magic of Santa’s Christmas Eve deliveries, or enjoy the spooky tales of Krampus, there’s no denying the enduring power of holiday traditions.
