Disneyland: Star Wars - Galaxy’s Edge Opens 05/23/2019

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Opening & Reservations

Star Wars 'lands' were initially announced on August 15th, 2015 and construction at both parks began on April 14th, 2016.

'Star Wars Land' Disneyland opens to the limited public on May 31st, 2019 with select rides and attractions. Galaxy’s Edge guests will have access to all the outposts hosted in Galaxy’s Edge, which means you will be able to eat and shop Star Wars inspired food (including Green or Blue Milk) and smuggle home some Star Wars cargo (Including custom Lightsabers).

However when it initially opens on May 31st and until June 23rd when it opens to the general public, you will need reservations. Guests staying at one of the 3 Disneyland Resort hotels (Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa,  Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel) during these dates will receive a designated reservation.

Capacity is limited. Galaxy’s Edge may be restricted or unavailable (depending on guest demand and other factors) during these dates to those guests not staying at a Disneyland Resort.

Non resort guests will need valid theme park tickets for the opportunity to make a no-cost reservation (subject to availability) to access 'Star Wars Land' from May 31st to June 24th. My speculation is that this will be a virtual que with reservations made via the Disneyland app while in the park and I expect this type of system will remain in effect after June 24th to limit crowding at Black Spire Outpost on the Planet Batuu.

Easter Egg in Solo: A Star Wars Story - In case you missed it, when L3 is walking down to the Millennium Falcon, she tells Lando that he couldn't navigate to the Black Spire Outpost without her.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Attractions

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, opens May 31st, 2019, the attraction will be located in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Park. You will get to fly the Millennium Falcon on a thrilling interactive smuggling mission. Must be 38” or taller to ride and will be subject to small drops, darkness and loud noises. This ride is not eligible for FastPass or MaxPass.

Also launching that day is Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge feature on Play Disney Parks Mobile App, where after you arrive to Batuu, the Play Disney Parks app will transform into a galactic datapad designed to guide you in tour adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
  • Tune into communications and unscramble transmissions being sent from far, far away.
  • Translate galactic languages; written and spoken.
  • Use the app to 'hack' into devices, control panels and droids.
  • Discover cargo and digital goods as you scan objects around the spaceport.
  • As you are guided along, you’ll have the chance to join the First Order, the Resistance, or be a solo space pirate.
  • With each job you complete, you’ll receive digital rewards!

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be opening after the rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, likely later this year. The website basically says Since it’s a more advanced ride, they want to make sure it exceeds expectations before release. Some speculate this may occur September 1st, 2019, but Disney has not given a date, only stated they want to test the new technologies thoroughly.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Food

There will be many Star Wars inspired food options that will be available in Galaxy’s Edge, the whole land is modeled after Black Spire Outpost, on the planet Batuu. A last stop for traders on the edge of the galaxy.
